Please be informed that the Village of Centerburg, in conjunction with K.E. McCartney Engineering, will be tested the sanitary sewer lines during the days of October 14 and 15. This testing was conducted by injecting smoke into the sanitary sewers from the Village's mainline sewer. The smoke is a non-toxic substance that is harmless to humans, pets, food and material goods. The purpose of this test is to determine locations where storm water is entering the sanitary sewer system.
The smoke may be seen coming from roof vents, downspouts, building foundations, or manhole covers. If your house is properly connected to the sanitary sewer, the chance of smoke entering your house is unlikely.
To minimize the likelihood of smoke entering your house, please run water through all of your floor drains and sinks to ensure that there is water in all plumbing traps. Locations where smoke is entering your house should be noted and repaired as soon as possible because this indicates locations where sewer gases are likely entering your home.
If smoke is seen inside of your home, simply open the windows until it clears. The smoke is harmless but may temporarily be irritating to nasal passages. If irritation is noticed, you should leave the premises until it clears. If you have any questions, please call the Village Administrator at 740-625-6075 ext. 2.
